Camper Success Story

Before & After: Ernie

Peachtree City boot camper Ernie went from 230 lbs to 195 lbs but that's not all he was able to lose-read his story of decreasing his medications and fitness journey below.

WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO OPERATION BOOT CAMP?
After getting to the heaviest weight of my life, 230lbs., I had managed on my own to get down to 195lbs. but couldn’t seem to get any lower. I knew I needed some help and that’s when I found OBC via an internet search.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN CAMPING?
I started in February 2010. On my 4th day of camp, I sprained my ankle and had to take a month off. During this time I received numerous emails from the instructors and some of the campers inquiring about my recovery and providing words of encouragement. I’m now into my 6th month of OBC and am proud to say I have not missed a single day of camp.

WHAT WERE YOUR GOALS YOUR FIRST MONTH?
Each month I set at least 2 specific goals; even if I don’t achieve them by the end of camp I am much closer to them than what I was at the beginning. In my 1st log book my goals were to lose 10lbs. and improve my mile run time by 1 minute. By the end of the 1st camp I had lost 15lbs and ran the mile 2 minutes faster. I continue to see improvements in my fitness each month; in Oct., I ran a half marathon!

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST SURPRISING THING ABOUT OPERATION BOOT CAMP?
The most surprising thing to me about OBC is how much fun it is. Sure, getting up each day to make it to camp by 05:15 a.m. can be a challenge, but by the end of the workout I feel great. Also, there is not a day goes by where I don’t find something to laugh about during the workout.

HOW HAVE INSTRUCTORS HELPED YOU?
The help and encouragement you receive from the instructors is the primary reason why I continue to come back to camp each month.

HOW HAS YOUR LIFE BEEN IMPACTED BY OPERATION BOOT CAMP?
When I 1st started OBC I was taking 4 different medications for health reasons. Since that time, my Dr. has reduced my medications to the point that I’m now only having to take 1 of these and that particular one the dosage has been cut in half twice! My goal is to be completely off meds within a few months.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF OPERATION BOOT CAMP?
The most challenging aspect of OBC for me has been the nutrition piece of it. At one point in my life I did exercise, but I’ve never purposely considered eating right until I started OBC.

ANY UNEXPECTED BENEFITS?
My wife and daughter, who is living at home while she attends college, have both benefited nutrition wise as a result of the change in my eating habits.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE WORKOUT?
I would say my favorite workouts are those that involve both anaerobic and aerobic exercise. For example, the one we call 20-20-20.

Kid's Boot Camp was Incredible!

What a great work out with the kids! It was so great to see the "family side" of all our instructors. Nice Josh made his little girl cry. Ben's kids had perfect hair and didn't want to mess it up..just like their dad. Wendy did the whole workout with 3 year old on her back. Dori should be running a day care. She w...as awesome! Julie's kids spent the whole time hugging people. Michelle and Lane's kids should be instructors now. Even Rob and Melissa's KIDS could out run me.  How could I forget about 3 generations of Garcia's representing!! Muy Rapido Nina!

Camper Success Story

Before & After
My Name is Jenna Oswald, and I am 36 years old.  I found Operation Boot Camp through my boss, who at the time was a camper.  He invited me to "bring a friend day," which I was very nervous about due to the shape and unhealthy state I was in.  I am 5' 4" and was 166 pounds and had several surgeries which obstructed me from working out and just plain gave me every excuse to do nothing. Over the past three years, I have struggled to get this weight off with no such luck, and I have tried every diet pill known to man. Nothing worked, and it all just gave me constant migraines.  I was an avid Coke drinker, at least three a day, they were my favorite...loved fried foods, bread..etc..all the BAD foods that I found out that we should not be eating.  I got in the habit of not eating, then eating the wrong things when I would.  The worst habit I had was eating snack right before bedtime, then crawling into bed and wondering where this weight was coming from.  In November 2009, I decided I was going to go to this "bring a friend day" and see what this was all about. Seriously, what could it hurt?  I was very nervous considering I had never been a runner, nor was I good at pushups, sit ups, or any of these things they had us doing.  I had no idea how to even breathe; I was so out of breath I thought I was gonna pass out.  I left "bring a friend day" thinking these people have lost their minds, but I think I could really do this.  So for the next month I talked to my boss about getting a gym membership, and I saw how expensive it was and that I would have nobody to work out with.  I then checked out this Operation Boot Camp, and the prices, and had no idea how I was gonna pay for it, but knew it was my only hope to get this weight off and keep it off.  Well for my Christmas BONUS, my boss gave me a month to Operation Boot Camp...which was perfect because that particular time we actually got 6 weeks for the price of 4! I was ecstatic.  I started on January 11, 2010 weighing in at 166 pounds.  When I finished my first six weeks of boot camp, I had lost 20 pounds, learned how and when to eat all the right foods, and could run a 5k while still breathing! I immediately signed up for another three months, and as an added bonus, one of my best girlfriends who had watched my transformation joined this month.  I helped her learn how to eat better even before she started boot camp and got HER off SODAS as well, so together we will continue this journey of health and fitness. I truly hope to become an instructor one day so that I can help someone who was once like me transform their life, too.

To date: January 9, 2010 I was wearing a size 10 jeans; March 19, 2010, I am in a size 7. My shirts were all extra large, now I am a medium. I have more energy and run any 5k I possibly can now. I work out each and every morning with Operation Boot Camp, and on the weekends I spend my time running around the lake, the track, or in a 5k. I cannot say enough about how Operation Boot Camp has CHANGED MY LIFE!!!...Thank you!!!

Sincerely,

Jenna

Holy Cow!  What a great group to put the cap on two great years of Operation Boot Camp in PTC!!  This was a really great month.  Got rid of the sweat pants and gloves after a long cold winter.  I am so excited about starting back up April 12th.  Warm weather.  What looks like is going to be a very large group.  Got some old vets coming back and lot's of fresh faces too.   Next month we celebrate our two year anniversary.  Maybe a bbq? Any ideas?
